Live stats
How the live numbers at /stats are counted, and why we count the whole network instead of our own users.
Live stats counts ERC-5564 activity on Ethereum mainnet, read by your browser from Blockscout's public API:
- Stealth payments announced: Announcement events from the ERC-5564 Announcer in the last 7 days, newest first, up to 1,000 events.
- Last 24 hours and the daily chart: the same events in rolling 24-hour windows ending now.
- Distinct senders and apps: distinct
callervalues in those events. - Meta-addresses registered: StealthMetaAddressSet events from the ERC-6538 Registry in the last 7 days.
Pre-standard contracts (such as Umbra's) and other networks are not counted there; the leak study covers both.
Why not our own users
To count our own payments we would have to tag them: a marker in the metadata, a server that sees them, or a fee to a known address. Each of these is a fingerprint that makes those payments easier to pick out of the crowd. A privacy tool that measures its users this way makes them less private. So we measure the crowd everyone hides in, and we grow it.
